Recording phone calls
With Kuno, you can capture phone calls too, as a recording plus a searchable note. Because Kuno is a standalone recording device, this works independently of your phone — with no need to touch your phone app or carrier.
At a glance
- Kuno records phone calls through its own microphone — just place the device next to your phone during a speakerphone call.
- Starting and stopping the recording happens on the device; the red LED always indicates that recording is in progress.
- In Germany, recording conversations without the consent of everyone involved is a criminal offense under Section 201 StGB — get explicit consent beforehand.
- After the call, Kuno syncs the recording to the app via Bluetooth and creates a transcript and summary.
- All data is processed exclusively in the EU; your conversations are not used to train AI models.
- Both incoming and outgoing calls can be recorded — regardless of carrier, country, or phone app.
Phone calls often contain the most important agreements of your day. With Kuno, you capture them as a recording along with a searchable transcript and summary — so you can focus fully on the conversation.
How recording phone calls works
Unlike app-based solutions, Kuno doesn’t interact with your phone app or your mobile carrier contract. Kuno is a standalone recording device and records the conversation through its own microphone. This works with any carrier, in any country, for both incoming and outgoing calls.
The most reliable approach is to record via speakerphone:
- Make sure Kuno is charged and paired with the Kuno app via Bluetooth.
- Turn on your phone’s speaker at the start of the call.
- Place Kuno near the phone with the microphone facing it — ideally on a quiet, flat surface.
- Press the record button on the device. The red LED lights up, confirming that Kuno is recording.
- End the call as usual, then stop the recording on the device.
Important — legal note (Germany): Recording non-public spoken conversations without the consent of everyone involved is a criminal offense under Section 201 StGB. Explicitly inform the other person at the start of the call and get clear consent before you begin recording. In a business context, GDPR requirements also apply.
Retrieving notes and transcript
As soon as you stop the recording and Kuno is within range of your phone, the device automatically syncs the recording to the Kuno app via Bluetooth. Within a few minutes, a complete transcript and a structured summary with the key points and action items are created there.
Privacy and EU processing
Processing of the recording, transcript, and summary takes place exclusively on servers within the EU. Your conversations are not used to train AI models and remain under your control.
Tips for better recordings
- Choose as quiet an environment as possible, without background noise.
- Keep the speaker volume comfortable but clear.
- For important conversations, it’s worth doing a short test recording beforehand.
