Firmware updates
Firmware is your Kuno device's internal software. Updates keep recording quality, battery life, and above all the security of your recordings up to date - and are installed exclusively through the Kuno app.
At a glance
- Firmware updates are delivered via the Kuno app over Bluetooth - the device itself doesn't establish its own internet connection.
- The app notifies you automatically as soon as an update is available; you decide when to install it.
- During the update, the status LED blinks slowly blue; the device can't record during this time.
- Your existing recordings are unaffected - an update never deletes data.
- Security updates close potential vulnerabilities and are part of our GDPR-compliant duty of care.
- Updates are free and have no effect on your 2-year warranty or your right of withdrawal.
Firmware is the internal software that controls your Kuno device - from recording to battery management to encryption. With firmware updates, we improve recording quality, extend battery life, and close security gaps. Updates are always free.
How updates reach your device
For privacy reasons, your Kuno device doesn’t establish its own internet connection. Updates are delivered exclusively through the Kuno app via Bluetooth. The app downloads the verified update from our servers in the EU and transfers it to your device.
Every firmware package is digitally signed. Your device only installs updates whose signature it recognizes as genuine. This ensures no tampered software can ever reach your device.
Installing an update
- Connect your Kuno device to the Kuno app and make sure the battery is at least 30% charged.
- In the app, open Settings › Device › Firmware. If an update is available, you’ll see the new version number and a short description of the changes.
- Tap Update now and keep the device within range. The status LED blinks slowly blue during the transfer.
- The device then restarts automatically. Once the LED glows steady green again, Kuno is ready to use.
An update usually takes two to four minutes.
Your device can’t record during an update, and the red recording indicator stays off. Plan updates for a time outside of important conversations.
Your recordings stay safe
A firmware update only changes the device software. Your already-saved recordings, transcripts, and settings remain completely intact. That said, never actively cancel an update or move the device out of Bluetooth range - if the transfer is interrupted, the device detects this and retries the process the next time it connects.
Security and your rights
We recommend installing security updates promptly. They close potential vulnerabilities and are part of our duty of care under GDPR. We support older devices with updates for at least five years from the date of purchase.
Firmware updates don’t affect your statutory rights: your 2-year warranty and your 14-day right of withdrawal remain unchanged.
