Pair your Kuno

Before making your first recording, connect your Kuno device to the Kuno app once via Bluetooth. Pairing takes less than two minutes and only needs to be set up once.

At a glance

  • Install the Kuno app from the App Store or Google Play and sign in with your Kuno account.
  • Turn on the device by holding the side button for 3 seconds - the LED blinks blue once it's ready to pair.
  • Select your Kuno under Devices in the app; once connected successfully, the LED glows steady blue.
  • During every recording, the recording ring glows red - a visible signal to everyone present.
  • Only record with the consent of everyone in the conversation (Section 201 StGB); processing and storage are GDPR-compliant on EU servers.

Before using your Kuno for the first time, connect it to the Kuno app once. After that, the app automatically recognizes your device whenever it’s in range and powered on.

Before you start

  • A smartphone with Bluetooth enabled
  • The free Kuno app (App Store or Google Play)
  • A charged Kuno device (partially charged as shipped)

Pairing step by step

  1. Install the Kuno app and open it. Sign in with your Kuno account (email with a one-time code). Use the same email you used to purchase, since your account - not the device - is linked to the license.
  2. Turn on the device: hold the side button for about 3 seconds. The LED blinks blue - your Kuno is ready to pair.
  3. Grant permissions: allow the app to access Bluetooth (for connecting to the device) and notifications. Android requires location access for device discovery for system reasons; Kuno doesn’t use your location for anything.
  4. Select the device: in the app, tap Devices → Add Kuno. Select your Kuno from the list. Once connected successfully, the LED glows steady blue.
  5. Test a recording: briefly press the recording button. The recording ring glows red for as long as it’s recording - visible to everyone in the room. Press again to stop the recording.

Important - consent and privacy: Secretly recording a private conversation is a criminal offense under Section 201 of the German Criminal Code (StGB). Only record once everyone in the conversation has agreed. The visible red recording ring helps you stay transparent. Your recordings are processed and stored exclusively on servers within the EU, in full compliance with GDPR.

LED status at a glance

  • Blinking blue: ready to pair
  • Solid blue: connected to the app
  • Red (recording ring): recording in progress
  • Pulsing green: charging

If pairing doesn’t work

  • Kuno doesn’t show up in the list: turn Bluetooth off and on on your phone, then reopen the app.
  • Connection fails: hold the side button for 5 seconds to turn the device off, then repeat from step 2.
  • LED doesn’t respond: charge Kuno for 10 minutes and turn it on again.
