Syncing methods
Your Kuno device transfers recordings to the Kuno app in three ways: via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or a USB-C cable. Which method is fastest depends on how much data you're syncing.
At a glance
- Bluetooth is the default connection for short recordings and everyday status syncing.
- Wi-Fi transfers large amounts of data much faster after long recordings and saves battery.

- The LED shows sync status: pulsing blue = transferring, green = complete, yellow = an issue.
- Web Sync only works in Chrome, Edge, or Brave; Safari and Firefox don't support USB file access.
Your Kuno device offers three ways to sync. All of them transfer your recordings end-to-end encrypted to our servers in the EU - your data never leaves the European legal area.
Which method, and when?
- Bluetooth - for everyday use. Ideal for short voice notes and ongoing status syncing.
- Wi-Fi - after long recordings. Transfers large files much faster than Bluetooth, while going easy on the battery.
- USB-C (Web Sync) - for bulk transfers. The fastest method when you want to back up or archive many recordings at once.
Syncing via Bluetooth
- Open the Kuno app and turn on the device.
- The connection is established automatically - the LED pulses blue.
- New recordings transfer in the background. Once the LED glows green, syncing is complete.
Syncing via Wi-Fi
- When the app detects larger unsynced recordings, it automatically suggests “Sync faster.”
- Tap it and select your Wi-Fi network.
- The transfer begins; you can keep using the app in the meantime.
Syncing via USB-C (Web Sync)
Requirements: current firmware, a USB-C data cable (not just a charging cable), and Chrome, Edge, or Brave. Safari and Firefox don’t support USB file access.
- In the Kuno app, enable the feature under Settings → Web Sync.
- Open app.heykuno.com in a supported browser.
- Connect the device to your computer via USB-C directly - without a USB hub.
- Click the sync icon and select the KUNO drive.
- Start the transfer.
Note on recordings and consent: Under Section 201 of the German Criminal Code (StGB), you may only record conversations with others with their consent. The visibly lit recording LED on your Kuno device helps establish this transparency for everyone involved. Syncing doesn’t change your responsibility as the person recording.
Sync issues
- No connection in the browser: check browser compatibility, try a different data cable, and avoid USB hubs.
- Web Sync won’t turn on: make sure Bluetooth pairing is active and restart the device.
- Transfer stalls or is slow: plug the cable in firmly and connect the device directly to the computer.
