Status-light meanings
The status LED on your Kuno device shows you at a glance what it's currently doing - most importantly, whether it's recording. This overview explains every color and blink pattern.
At a glance
- Pulsing red always means: Kuno is actively recording - the recording is intentionally visible.
- Steady white means connected and ready; no light means off or in sleep mode.
- Green indicates charge status: blinking means charging, solid means fully charged.
- Blinking blue shows pairing mode, and pulsing purple means a firmware update is in progress.
- Fast-blinking red signals an error or a low battery.
- The visible recording LED helps you meet the consent requirement under German law.
The status LED on your Kuno device sits on the front and communicates its current state through color and blink pattern. This way, you and everyone present always know what the device is doing - without having to open the app.

Recognizing a recording
Recording on Kuno is deliberately visible. As soon as the device is recording, the LED pulses a steady red - not hidden, and not something you can turn off.
Important note on consent: Under Section 201 of the German Criminal Code (StGB), recording a private conversation without the consent of everyone involved is a criminal offense. The visible red pulsing helps you inform people transparently and get their consent before recording. Please actively let the people you’re talking to know that recording is taking place.
Checking battery and charging
Here’s how to read the charge status:
- Connect the device via USB-C. The LED blinks green while charging.
- If the LED glows solid green, the battery is full.
- To check the charge level while in use, press the recording button twice quickly: green means full, yellow means medium, red means low.
- Fast-blinking red during use means the battery is critically low - please charge it soon.
Pairing and updates
- Hold the recording button for 5 seconds until the LED blinks blue. The device is now in pairing mode and visible in the Kuno app.
- Once connected successfully, the LED switches to steady white.
- During a firmware update, the LED pulses purple. Don’t disconnect the device from power during this time.
If something seems off
