Device won't connect or charge

If your Kuno device won't connect to the Kuno app or won't charge, it's almost always down to the cable, charge level, or Bluetooth. These steps resolve the most common cases in just a few minutes.

At a glance

  • Check charging first: use the original cable and a USB-C power adapter you know works, and watch the LED status.
  • Pulsing orange = charging, solid green = full, blinking red = very low battery or an error.
  • For connection issues: check the app and Bluetooth, remove the old pairing in the app, and pair again.
  • Restart with a long press of the button; if needed, do a hardware reset (hold the button for 10 seconds).
  • Recordings stay stored locally on the device until it's connected - nothing is lost.
  • Still no luck? A 2-year warranty and 14-day right of withdrawal apply - contact: [email protected].

Can’t get your Kuno device to connect to the Kuno app, or does it not respond to the charging cable? In most cases, it comes down to the cable, the charge level, or the Bluetooth connection. Work through the sections below in order.

Device won’t charge

  1. Use the included USB-C cable and a power adapter you know works. Faulty or data-only cables are the most common cause.
  2. Try a different outlet, power adapter, or USB port (some computer ports don’t supply enough power).
  3. After plugging in, check the status LED:
    • Pulsing orange: device is charging.
    • Solid green: battery full.
    • Blinking red: very low battery or an error - charge for at least 30 minutes before turning it back on.
  4. If the LED shows no response after 30 minutes on the charger, let the device rest at room temperature. Devices that are very cold or very hot won’t charge, as a safety measure for the battery.

Device won’t connect to the app

  1. Turn on the device with a long press (about 3 seconds) on the recording button. The LED briefly lights up white.
  2. Check that Bluetooth is enabled on your phone and that the Kuno app has Bluetooth permission.
  3. In the app, open Settings › Device and remove any old, faulty pairing via Remove device.
  4. Start the pairing process again. In pairing mode, the device shows a slowly blinking blue LED.
  5. If that doesn’t help, fully close the app, turn Bluetooth off and back on on your phone, and restart your phone.

Restart and hardware reset

  1. Restart: hold the recording button for about 5 seconds until the LED turns off, then power on normally.
  2. Hardware reset: if the device won’t turn on or off, hold the recording button for 10 seconds. The device will restart; your local recordings are preserved.

Your data stays safe. Recordings are first stored encrypted on the device and only uploaded to the EU cloud once there’s a connection to the app. A connection or charging issue never causes data loss. The red recording LED always visibly shows when a recording is in progress - which helps you get everyone’s consent as required under Section 201 of the German Criminal Code (StGB).

Still no connection?

If none of these steps help, there may be a hardware fault. Email [email protected] with your serial number (on the underside of the device) and a description of the LED behavior. Within the statutory 2-year warranty, we’ll inspect and replace defective devices free of charge. If your purchase was 14 days ago or less, your right of withdrawal also applies.
