In-meeting recording notice
Before you record a conversation with Kuno, everyone taking part needs to be informed and agree. This article shows you how to give a clear recording notice and how Kuno supports you in doing so.

A recording is only legally sound if everyone involved knows about it and agrees. Kuno helps you give this notice reliably and visibly — in the conference room just as much as on the phone.
Important: In Germany, recording non-public spoken conversations without consent is a criminal offense under Section 201 of the German Criminal Code (StGB). Always obtain the agreement of everyone taking part before starting the recording. When in doubt: ask first, then record.
Why the notice comes before the start
Consent must be in place before recording begins — agreeing afterward doesn’t retroactively legitimize a recording that’s already running. Build the notice firmly into the start of the conversation, the same way you’d do a quick round of introductions.
How to give the recording notice
- Place the Kuno device visibly on the table or next to the phone.
- Actively inform the group, for example: “I’d like to record this conversation with Kuno to make it easier to take notes later. Is everyone okay with that?”
- Wait for a clear acknowledgment from everyone present.
- Only then press the record button. The red recording LED lights up, visibly showing that recording is now underway.
For phone or video calls, say the notice out loud so that remote participants can also hear it and agree.
Turning on the reminder in the Kuno app
So you never forget the notice, the Kuno app can display a consent notice at the start of every recording:
- In the Kuno app, open Settings › Privacy.
- Turn on Show recording notice.
- Adjust the notice text as needed for your situation (e.g., internal meeting or client conversation).
The app then shows the notice with every recording, tied to the device connected via Bluetooth — a quiet reminder, not a substitute for saying it out loud.
If someone doesn’t agree
Please note: If someone objects, stop the recording immediately. In the Kuno app, you can permanently and irreversibly remove the affected recording via Recording › Delete. That way, data sovereignty stays where it belongs.
All Kuno recordings are processed exclusively on EU servers and are subject to the GDPR. You remain in full control of your data at all times.
