Managed installation

If you're rolling out the Kuno app on behalf of your team, this article gives IT admins the information they need on obtaining, distributing, and updating the app. For requirements specific to your management environment, our team is happy to help at [email protected].

At a glance

  • The Kuno app can be distributed to your team via MDM tools (Jamf, Intune, Kandji).
  • Updates happen automatically in the background; we recommend leaving this feature enabled.
  • Kuno devices are paired individually per employee over Bluetooth, not centrally.
  • All voice and app data is processed exclusively in the EU, with no model training on customer data.
  • Employees must obtain the consent of everyone involved before every recording (Section 201 StGB).
  • For company-wide rollouts or GDPR documentation, contact [email protected].

A managed installation is designed for IT teams looking to centrally roll out the Kuno app to multiple employees, for example via mobile device management (MDM). This article describes the recommended approach.

Distributing the app via MDM

The Kuno app can be distributed through common MDM solutions:

  1. Load the app via the respective app store (iOS, Android), or as a signed installation package into your MDM tool (e.g. Jamf, Microsoft Intune, Kandji).
  2. Assign the app to the desired devices or user groups.
  3. Make sure your network policies allow outbound connections to Kuno’s services (EU region) as well as Bluetooth.
  4. Each employee pairs their own Kuno device: press the pairing button on the device and connect it in the app. There is no provision for central device pairing.

Managing updates

The Kuno app updates itself automatically in the background whenever a new version is available. We recommend leaving automatic updates enabled so that security and feature updates arrive without manual effort. If your policies require fixed version levels, get in touch and we’ll work out an approach with you.

Privacy and EU data sovereignty

Kuno is designed with privacy in mind. All recordings and app data are processed and stored exclusively in the EU. Customer data is never used to train AI models. For a company-wide rollout, we’ll provide the necessary GDPR documentation on request, such as a data processing agreement (DPA).

Important note on consent: Even with a company-wide rollout, each user remains responsible for obtaining the consent of everyone taking part before every recording. Recording non-public spoken conversations without consent is a criminal offense in Germany under Section 201 StGB. The red recording LED on the Kuno device transparently signals to everyone present that a recording is in progress.
