Welcome to Kuno. This guide takes you from an unboxed device to your first recording in just a few minutes. You’ll need your Kuno device, the included USB-C cable, and a smartphone with Bluetooth.
1. Charge the device
Before first use, connect Kuno to a power source using the USB-C cable.
- While charging, the status LED blinks slowly green.
- Once the battery is full, it glows solid green.
- A full charge takes about 90 minutes and provides roughly 12 hours of recording time.
2. Install the Kuno app
- Download the Kuno app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
- Open the app and create an account with your email address.
- Confirm that your data will be processed on EU servers — Kuno stores and processes data exclusively within the European Union.
3. Pair the device
- Turn on Kuno by briefly pressing the side button.
- Hold the pairing button for about 3 seconds until the LED alternates between blue and green.
- Select your device in the app under Settings › Connect device.
- Once pairing succeeds, the LED briefly flashes green and the app displays “Connected.”
4. Start your first recording
- Briefly press the record button to start — the recording LED lights up blue.
- This visible indicator stays on throughout the recording so everyone present can tell that it’s being recorded.
- Press it again to stop. The recording is transferred to the app in encrypted form and transcribed there.
Important — consent: Under German law (Section 201 StGB), recording non-public spoken conversations without consent is a criminal offense. Always inform everyone taking part and get their consent before you start recording. The blue recording LED helps you stay transparent about it.
Your data and your rights
Kuno is designed with privacy in mind: recordings are processed on servers within the EU, in compliance with GDPR. You can delete recordings in the app at any time.
Your device is covered by statutory protections: a 2-year warranty and a 14-day right of withdrawal from the date you receive the product.
