Repairs & battery service

Your Kuno recorder is built to last – and to be repaired rather than thrown away. Here's how to request battery and device service, and what your legal rights are.

At a glance

  • Battery running low? Check the diagnostics in the Kuno app first, before requesting service.
  • Repairs and battery replacements are handled centrally via [email protected] with an RMA number.
  • 2-year statutory warranty (GDPR-compliant) plus a 14-day right of withdrawal for online purchases.
  • Recordings are stored encrypted on EU servers, not on the device – service shipping is privacy-compliant.
  • We repair rather than replace: spare parts and batteries remain available long-term (right to repair).

The Kuno recorder is built to last – we deliberately favor repair and battery replacement over throwing devices away. This article explains how to request service, what it costs, and what rights you have in Germany.

When battery service makes sense

Every device’s battery loses capacity over time. Typical signs: recording time per charge drops noticeably, the device shuts off unexpectedly, or the recording LED blinks red while charging.

  1. Open the Kuno app and go to Device › Battery health.
  2. Check the value shown. Below 70% remaining capacity, we recommend a battery replacement.
  3. First, update the firmware (Device › Updates) – some issues resolve without any hardware work.

Please don’t open the housing yourself. The battery is permanently installed; improper tampering can damage the device and create safety risks.

Requesting a repair or battery replacement

  1. Email [email protected] with the serial number (found on the bottom of the device and in the app under Device › Info) and a brief description of the issue.
  2. You’ll receive an RMA number and a prepaid EU shipping label.
  3. Send in the recorder — just the device, without the charging cable or extra packaging.
  4. We’ll inspect, repair, or replace the battery and send the device back, usually within 10 business days.

Privacy note: Your recordings are stored end-to-end encrypted on EU servers, not permanently on the device. Before shipping, you can delete all local data in the app under Device › Reset. This way, no personal content ever leaves your hands – fully GDPR-compliant.

What it costs

  • Within the warranty period (2 years): If there’s a material or manufacturing defect, the repair is free of charge. This is your statutory right under German sales law.
  • Outside the warranty period: We offer battery replacements and repairs at transparent flat rates, which we’ll tell you upfront. You decide whether we proceed.

Your rights at a glance

  • 2-year warranty: Applies from delivery for any defect that was already present at the time of handover.
  • 14-day withdrawal: For online purchases, you can return the device without giving any reason.
  • Right to repair: We keep spare parts and batteries available long-term so your Kuno stays repairable.
