The narrower official undetectability documentation says its invisibility setting is opt-in and is intended to keep the overlay out of screen sharing when conferencing software respects the relevant Windows or macOS privacy behavior. Those qualifications matter. The documentation discusses a display-layer behavior for meetings; it does not establish universal invisibility in exam environments.
Why “not shown in screen share” is not “undetectable”
A screen share is one observation channel. A supervised test may use several independent channels, and institutions often change their controls without publishing every implementation detail. Even if an overlay is absent from the transmitted screen, other evidence may reveal unauthorized assistance.
Detection can also happen after submission. A reviewer may compare work with earlier samples, ask a student to explain reasoning orally, inspect citations or investigate an unusual change in performance. Some people seek live assistance because an assessment format creates a disability-related barrier. The correct route is an approved accommodation, not covert technology. Contact the institution’s disability or accessibility office early, describe the functional barrier and ask what evidence and lead time are required.
Possible accommodations may include extra time, rest breaks, a reduced-distraction room, accessible digital formats, screen readers, speech-to-text, a reader or scribe, ergonomic input, or an alternative assessment method. Availability depends on the person’s needs and governing policy. Ask for the approved tool, configuration and conditions in writing.
