Assess ignition, fire and process hazards

Inspect the work face and surrounding area. Consider combustible materials, residues, dusts, vapors, insulation, linings, coatings, floor openings and heat transfer through metal. Look beyond the visible side of a partition or deck. Record direct observations and the source of process information.

Confirm equipment contents, service history and operating status through authorized records and responsible operations personnel. Cleaning, draining, purging, isolation and testing must follow approved technical procedures. A verbal claim that equipment is “empty” is not sufficient evidence.
